Moments in Mothering

On the way to Disney World

Ella wanted me to post a picture of the two of us. She is kissing up to me after making me supremely frustrated by complaining throughout the WONDERFUL dinner I prepared. I was trying to make her clean her plate, and she made it through the pork and carrots (crying in between bites) but was gagging and spitting out the mashed potatoes. Finally, I said, "Forget it. You just can't have any candy; I'm tired of dealing with this." (She was supposed to get Easter candy after eating her dinner.) She said in such a sweet voice, "Mommy, do you think I can have some candy tomorrow?" That was not what I expected. I thought she might eat up her potatoes to have candy, but she is so stubborn. I said, "I don't know, sweetie. Maybe if you eat all your food." She replied, "I think I will eat all my bacon." Bacon is one of her favorite foods. Why should she be rewarded for that? Now she is sitting beside me on the couch being perfectly pleasant and sociable. (SIGH.)

  1. Oh, Lynn! This is funny! I can just see Ella being her classic, sociable self... sans mashed potatoes! I love you, friend!

  2. Thanks, Molly! She is so sweet, and I really don't know how to deal with the food situation at times. It's hard to know what to do...but she is so sweet.
