A Happy Weekend

This weekend was one of the most restful I've had in a long time.  I didn't feel like there were a million things I needed to rush around and get done, and I SAW PEOPLE.

I'm definitely suited to my life as it is now.  I like being home, taking care of it and the people in it, but oh, how much more meaningful adult interaction is to me in these days!  Especially after missing church for weeks in a row with sick kids.  I think James has still been battling a little bit of a sinus infection over the past few days, which gave him a low, random, on again-off again fever.  This kept us from being able to visit my grandparents since I was unsure what was going on, but it ended up as a relaxing weekend, so I was thankful for that.

We did two days of school in one on Thursday, so Friday was a free day from regular school work and a gorgeous day to get out with the kids.

They're so cute I can't stand it.

The kids emptied out their savings from birthday and Tooth Fairy money and went out to buy something at Wal-Mart.  New Matchbox cars and a light-up tracing pad later set them up for a weekend of play.

Saturday morning KJ took the kids for a swim while I ran at the indoor track.  It was a great way to start the day.  Working out early made me feel like I could snuggle up in our room for the afternoon and cross stitch while watching television later.  James was napping, and Ella was playing outside with friends, and it was a nice quiet house.

After embroidering handkerchiefs for Ella's birthday party, I remembered how much I enjoyed stitching.  The last time I had really worked on anything was when I had knee surgery in college.  I cross-stitched while watching movies through a lot of my recovery period, and I decided to try to find some fun things to work on at night because without keeping my hands and mind busy with something other than watching television, I fall asleep after about 30 minutes of lying in bed.  That's not really a bad thing, except that I'd rather stay up a little later and have fun with KJ.  If I'm cross-stitching, I stay awake.

I've already completed one project to be framed and put out at Christmas, and I've been working the past 6 nights on another project, compliments of creative people who design fun patterns and sell them on Etsy.  This is an ambitious, going-to-take-a-long-time-project, for my husband.

One day this:

will turn into this Van Gogh/Dr. Who mash-up.  It will be the work of thousands of stitches, and I'll be keeping up with how many nights.

Even though we're not big football fans, we were still graciously invited to eat good food with those who are on Saturday night.  We are grateful to be included. :)

Somebody buy us Alabama shirts for Christmas, because it is a sad fact that KJ and I showed up to this event in our Oxford sweatshirts.  We are pathetic.  To be fair, I think KJ would get into it more, except that he knows the only way I'll probably ever care about football is if that little guy is wearing a helmet.

And let's be honest, golf is a lot safer.

Yesterday was another gloriously beautiful fall day, and it was refreshing to my soul to be in church again.  I am so grateful for our church, for fellowship and friendship, and to be with them at the end of all things.

The end of all things is near; therefore be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer.  Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:7-8).

  1. I am catching up with your blog, and I'm joining you in giving thanks for your wonderful weekend! The kids ARE too cute, and I am happy for the together fun had by all, swimming, eating with the football crew, etc. Early morning exercise . . . I have forgotten what that's like, though I remember it enough to wish to know it again.

And the cross-stitching! AMAZING. I can't WAIT to see the finish product here, and I look forward to seeing what you'll have on display at Christmas.

An Alabama sweatshirt. If memory serves me well, I get to fill your stocking this year :)

I love & miss you, sweet sister. Counting down the days!

    1. I'm getting excited to fill stockings, too! Though I'm trying not to think about Christmas until our wonderful Thanksgiving. :) We can't wait to see you all, too, and excited to see your girl this week. I'm glad she's feeling better. And it could even just be a long-sleeved T to better fit in the stocking. ;)
